RFI: NEW PACKAGING MATERIAL FOR MOUNTAIN COLD WEATHER RATION (MCWR) OVERWRAPS
The National Combat Ration Program (NCRP) is in the process of designing a new type of combat ration. This ration, called the Mountain Cold Weather Ration(MCWR), will be used for training exercises and deployed operations taking place in mountainous or cold environments when conditions do not allow the use of individual combat rations or fresh food. The MCWR consists of various food and non-food items packaged in an overwrap bag. Each MCWR meets the nutritional requirement for a 24-hour period/person.
The MCWR components are procured from various component suppliers who then ship the components to the Assembler. The Assembler then inserts all of the individual components inside the overwrap. The overwrap is considered secondary packaging; its purpose is to contain and protect the different components. It also helps the components achieve a 3 year shelf-life by limiting exposure to light, oxygen and humidity.
